In 2009 FCCA delivered a poultry welfare training, consultancy and pre-audit package in Thailand on behalf of Lakeside Foods in order to meet standards specified by their retail customer.
A bespoke training course was designed for the Thai processer. This allowed participants to fully understand their own systems whilst clearly demonstrating best practice. The two day theory course was presented using simultaneous translation and high levels of audio visual (real footage) of situations worldwide. The training developed full understanding through encouraging discussion on the rationale for certain standards.
This was followed by a pre-audit against retail standards which facilitated immediate practical solutions as well as recommendations on short, medium and long term goals. Practical training and consultancy was delivered throughout the supply chain: breeder farms, hatcheries, growers, catching, transport and slaughter. The week fully engaged multiple levels of staff, from practical on farm culling to improving processes at the factory. The process built knowledge, enhanced efficiency, improved the welfare of the birds and satisfied the end customer requirements.
